10 years of good work
THE Burpengary Men’s Shed has marked a decade of service, camaraderie, and community involvement, celebrating its 10th birthday on August 14.

More than 100 members, guests and visitors joined the milestone event, which featured a morning tea catered by the Burpengary QCWA and a certificate presentation to long-time supporters: Member for Morayfield Mark Ryan and 101.5 FM manager Craig Hewlett.
Since opening, the shed has become a hub for men to connect while contributing to the local community.
President Rodney Hanson reflected on the group’s extensive work, noting the wide range of projects and partnerships they’ve supported.
“It’s hard to imagine a time when our Men’s Shed did not exist — such is the impact and our involvement with the community,” he said.
Over the years, the shed has supported groups such as the Green Wattles CWA, Safe Communities, Uniforms for Kids, and the Barking Dog Obedience School. Members have also completed projects for schools, preschools, retirement villages, and nursing homes, while salvaging and repurposing materials that may otherwise have gone to landfill.
The group has been active in fundraising, running around 40 major raffles and selling roughly 25,000 ticket books.
The shed has also become known for its unique and lighthearted activities, such as riding lawn mower races at Lakeside Raceway, and its annual Christmas toy giveaway. Members have crafted and donated around 6,000 toys to charities and organisations including Ronald McDonald House, Brave Hearts, Legacy Australia, domestic violence units, and local hospitals.
Mr Hanson said every dollar raised goes back into supporting the shed and its activities. Alongside community projects, the group has prioritised social connections through Christmas dinners, and excursions to museums, historical villages, airports, breweries, wood shows, and other Men’s Sheds.
“Our shed in a nutshell — it is a vibrant place,” he said.
“I congratulate all the committee members over the years for keeping our shed moving forward and to our members, for being involved in this remarkable organisation. Here’s to another 10 years.
“As I often say, if you can’t find something to do at the shed — you’re not looking hard enough.”
