Morayfield Marketplace has officially commenced construction on Oakey Flat Road, and is set to open early next year with 150 childcare places on offer.

The project by local developer Adpen will include a childcare centre, swim school and 80 residential lots in one of the biggest growth corridors in the Moreton Bay region.

The viability of Morayfield is set to boost significantly in coming years, with the project forecast to create around 400 construction jobs and 60 permanent jobs.

Young local developer Adam Pennisi emphasised his personal commitment behind this initiative, citing his own experience as a father and the challenges faced by families in securing childcare services.

“With many families waiting too long to secure a place in a local centre, the investment in childcare infrastructure is crucial to support working parents and ensure the welfare of children in the rapidly growing Moreton Bay region,” Mr Pennisi said.

“Even in urban areas like SEQ, over 30 per cent of residents face challenges accessing childcare services, hindering workforce participation and early childhood education.

“Childcare plays a vital role in bridging socioeconomic gaps and facilitating workforce participation, providing families with the freedom to engage in paid employment.

“Moreover, it serves as a foundation for early learning, shaping lifelong opportunities for children.”

The development project aligns with the anticipated growth of Moreton Bay, which is projected to reach a population of 800,000 residents by 2046.

“With childcare centres in the region operating at full capacity and an expected influx of 8,000 new homes in the area, Adpen’s investment comes at a crucial juncture,” Mr Pennisi said.

“This project promises to breathe new life, investment, and job prosperity into the Moreton Bay region, positioning it as a vibrant and family-friendly community for years to come."
