5 things to explore in historic little Jimna
TUCKED away in the northern ranges of Somerset, the quiet township of Jimna is fast emerging as one of the region’s best-kept secrets.

Located about 90 minutes north of Brisbane, Jimna is surrounded by lush forest and rolling hills, offering a slower pace of life and a rare chance to truly disconnect.
For many visitors, the journey itself is part of the experience — a scenic drive through winding rural roads and towering pine forests before reaching the heart of the old forestry town.
The area’s most recognisable landmark, the Jimna Fire Tower, still stands tall as a reminder of the town’s history. Built in the 1970s, the heritage-listed structure remains the tallest fire tower in Queensland and symbolises the region’s long connection to the timber industry.
For visitors, the surrounding Jimna State Forest offers countless opportunities to explore, including:
Get on your bike or horse – Explore Jimna State Forest on horseback along a network of horse-riding trails, take your wheels for a spin on dedicated trail bike paths, or rev up your sense of adventure with some mountain bike riding along state forest roads and vehicle tracks.
Take a hike – Lace up your boots for short scenic walks like the Yabba Creek Circuit or the Eugenia Walk, both offering trails through shaded bushland and native forest.
4WD’ing fun – Experience a thrilling scenic route through Jimna State Forest or Conondale National Park by 4WD. Take the popular track from Sunday Creek Road in Jimna to Charlie Mooreland Campground near Kenilworth, or explore other tracks along Jimna-Bellthorpe Road, Langston Road, Mile and ¼ Road, or Tungi Road (starting from Jimna township).
Look out for wildlife – Keep an eye out for lazing koalas, eastern grey kangaroos, and the elusive platypus. You may also spot common bush birds, wedge-tailed eagles, grey goshawks, eastern yellow robins, paradise riflebirds, and satin bowerbirds.
Camping at its finest – Say goodbye to city light pollution and hello to the spread of stars above you while enjoying some much-needed time in nature around the campfire. Popular camping areas in Jimna include the Peach Trees Camping area and Jimna Base Camp.
