A generation’s final encore
AFTER more than six years of electrifying performances and unforgettable theatrics, Somerset’s beloved Generations of Rock band is preparing to take its final bow.
The group, known for its high-energy shows and deep local roots, will perform one last time at the Somerset Civic Centre on October 11, marking the end of an era for both the band and the community.
The band’s lead singer and founder, Peter Edwards, affectionately known as ‘Pete the Plumber’, said this will most likely be the last time the band will be complete with its longstanding members and setup.
The group’s lineup has always been a testament to local talent, with all members having been Somerset residents at some point.
The band’s shows are renowned for their theatrical flair, featuring tributes to legends like Alice Cooper and ACDC, complete with costumes, makeup, and dramatic stage effects.
But beyond the spectacle, it’s the camaraderie and shared passion among the members that has defined Generations of Rock.
“I have a group of friends that are equally as talented as the big names, and I thought ‘we will all be a lot happier if we perform as a group of friends’. And that was the best move I’ve ever made,” Peter said.
The upcoming show will also be a farewell to Andrew Coleman, the band’s prodigious guitarist and musical director, who is set to move to America.
“It’s a bit bittersweet. It’s the end of an era,” Peter said.
Fans can expect a ‘Best of Show’, revisiting the band’s greatest hits and most memorable acts.
The evening will open at 7pm with a performance by local duo Sudden Sun, followed by Generations of Rock’s final set until 10 pm.
As the curtain falls on this chapter, Peter is grateful for the memories and the community’s support.
“I’m going to miss the enjoyment of the show and the theatrics of it all, as far as being more than just a pub band and having a group of like-minded people to share your interest. I haven’t seen anybody do anything like what we do,” he said.
