A splash of history
A STUNNING new mural at the Woodford Showgrounds is turning heads while paying tribute to the town’s proud rural roots, colourful show traditions, and strong community spirit.

Created by local artist David Houghton, the mural captures key elements of Woodford’s history, from the region’s logging and bullock team heritage to the iconic cattle saleyards beneath a vibrant jacaranda tree in full bloom.
The artwork also celebrates the heart of the Woodford Show, featuring detailed depictions of poultry, dogs, horses, and bulls, symbols that have long represented the town’s agricultural identity and the community’s connection to country life.
The striking jacaranda and saleyard imagery were inspired by a photograph captured by Tyson Purdie of Woodford Kilcoy Storm Imagery. Purdie, a well-known local artist, volunteer, and photography judge at the Woodford Show, was thanked for his contribution to the project.
Div 12 Councillor Tony Latter said the mural has added great local character to the showgrounds. “It’s brightened up the back of the chook pavilion and looks fantastic,” he said. “Well done to the Show Committee for making it happen.”
Visitors can view the mural at the upcoming Woodford Rodeo on November 15, with locals and guests alike encouraged to stop by to admire the artwork and take photos.
