A splash of water colour
THE Woodford Water Tower has a vibrant new look, thanks to a striking mural unveiled last week at a community celebration hosted by the Woodford Lions Club.

Locals gathered at the tower, on the corner of Archer and Margaret streets, on Thursday, October 16, for a free community barbecue marking the official presentation of the artwork, now part of the region’s growing local art trail.
The mural, created by talented artist Ben Higgins and funded by the Lions, has transformed the once plain tower into a colourful landmark celebrating community spirit and creativity.
Woodford Lions Club President David Kearns said the project was about bringing art and energy into shared spaces.
“Art warms your heart, doesn’t it? We’re not humans if we don’t see artwork, and it puts a smile on your face—it softens everything,” he said.
“The water tower is a pretty ugly piece of infrastructure, and it sits right in the gateway to Woodford. We just wanted something to put a smile on people’s faces when they drive past and appreciate the wonderful community we live around.”
Mr Kearns said they collaborated with Mr Higgins in designing a project that would reflect the local history.
“There’s a train because we used to have the rail line, a sawmill from when we were a woodcutting town, all our local wildlife like the Black Cockatoo, the King Parrot, and even a bandicoot hidden in there for the kids to find.
“Ben has done a fantastic job. The mural really adds life and colour to what was previously a simple urban structure.”
Mr Higgins, known for his large-scale murals across South East Queensland, said he was thrilled to contribute to Woodford’s artistic landscape.
The event drew a strong turnout from community members, who enjoyed a relaxed evening of sausages, conversation, and celebration under the newly painted tower.
The mural is the latest in a series of community-led projects supported by the Woodford Lions Club, which continues to champion local initiatives that enhance public spaces and foster creativity.
