The annual Sports Day held at the Woodford Showgrounds was the highlight of our school year.

We participated in some interschool sports activities like cricket, tennis or softball against other schools such as Peachester, Stanmore and the two Belthorpe Schools.

We had the odd game of cricket with the Woodford State School, but we needed to join forces with Stanmore to make up a team.

But, undoubtedly, the pinnacle of the year was the Sports day.

The winning school was presented with a shield from years 1959 to 1968.

During that time Comm Flats were the dominant school winning the Shield six times.

The next best was Delaney’s Creek with two and Peachester, Stanmore, Stanley River once each.

Comm flats won the shield in 1962 and headmaster, Hugh Pearson, got us together the following week in our uniforms and took the attached photo, courtesy of Kay Garson (Tripcony).

The shield in the front of that photo will be front and centre at our Comm Flats display at the reunion.

Phil Caddies is also holding the ball games trophy for that year.

The 20 May get together from 10am to 4pm is shaping up as a very special event.
