Boost for gaming industry

The State Government is launching an exciting new program, Season of the Dev, designed to elevate Queensland’s digital gaming industry and nurture the next generation of creators.

The State Government is launching an exciting new program, Season of the Dev, designed to elevate Queensland’s digital gaming industry and nurture the next generation of creators.

Kicking off in March, the program will transform the Sunshine Coast into Queensland's game production powerhouse. It offers emerging developers the chance to enhance their skills through a series of free and affordable workshops, networking events, and a three-day game jam. The initiative runs until May and targets young adults at the beginning of their careers to create a pipeline of skilled workers for the sector.

Minister for the Arts John-Paul Langbroek said the State Government is committed to supporting the fast-growing games sector, which was left unsupported under the previous Labor Government.

“We need to support exciting, innovative industries like gaming, and Season of the Dev is helping young Queenslanders get the skills they need for a career in this global sector,” Minister Langbroek said.

Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training Ros Bates also highlighted the potential of the gaming sector to generate jobs and economic growth for Queensland.

Screen Queensland CEO Jacqui Feeney emphasised the program's role in connecting emerging creators with industry mentors, ensuring the Sunshine Coast becomes a new hub for games development.

University of the Sunshine Coast’s Dr Colleen Stieler-Hunt praised the program, noting the region’s technological infrastructure and talent pool as perfect for the industry’s growth.
