ANGLICARE is inviting Queenslanders to volunteer their time to bring companionship and joy to older Australians through the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS).

Funded by the Federal Government, the program pairs volunteers with older people in residential aged care or living in the community.

Retiree Dale shared her experience, saying volunteering brought friendship, laughter, and purpose to her weekly routine. “It’s so rewarding to know that something as simple as a visit once or twice a week can mean so much,” she said.

Kane Singh, Chief Operating Officer of Aged and Community Services, noted that retirees are often ideal volunteers due to their available time, life experience, and compassion. “Giving just 30 minutes of their week has enriched their own lives. It provides a real sense of pride while making a huge impact for older Australians,” he said.

Volunteers in the ACVVS are only asked to commit one hour per fortnight, offering a flexible way to engage. Activities can include chatting over a cup of tea, playing cards, or taking a stroll—simple interactions that can make a significant difference.

The ACVVS is supported by the Department of Health and Aged Care. More information is available at: https://anglicaresq.org.au/volunteers/.
