Calls for input into Bruce Highway plan

The Crisafulli Government says it is committed to enhancing the Bruce Highway with a long-term upgrade plan, including the re-establishment of the Bruce Highway Advisory Council (BHAC) by the end of 2024.

The Crisafulli Government says it is committed to enhancing the Bruce Highway with a long-term upgrade plan, including the re-establishment of the Bruce Highway Advisory Council (BHAC) by the end of 2024. Expressions of interest are being sought from regional representatives who regularly use the highway to identify key locations for future investment and improve road safety. The BHAC will focus on addressing road safety, capacity, and flood resilience issues along the highway, with input from stakeholders across the Far North to the Sunshine Coast.

Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg will chair the council, which aims to advise the government on investment priorities and sequencing of vital upgrades. The first BHAC meeting is scheduled for December 2024, and the council will provide critical advice to guide the future of the Bruce Highway.

Regional representatives from Far North Queensland, Northern Queensland, Mackay/Whitsundays, Fitzroy, Wide Bay/Burnett, and North Coast districts are encouraged to apply by 5pm on Friday 29 November 2024. More information is available at the Department of Transport and Main Roads website.

Minister Mickelberg stressed the importance of listening to regional communities to ensure necessary upgrades are delivered, and he also expressed concern over the Federal Government’s reduction in funding for the Bruce Highway, calling for a return to the traditional 80:20 funding split.
