Choat checks out of council comeback
Former Somerset Councillor Sean Choat has confirmed he will not be contesting the upcoming by-election for Somerset Regional Council.

Mr Choat served two terms as Councillor and previously as a state member, and was widely regarded as a strong contender for the by-election.
In announcing his decision not to stand, Mr Choat expressed gratitude for the community support he had received.
“I’ve had a lot of residents asking me to run since the resignation of former Councillor Isidro,” he said. “People have been great, and I really appreciate their support, but at this present time I need to focus on family and building a new career.”
Mr Choat said he valued his many years serving the community, but his shift to other pursuits means he cannot dedicate the time required to fully focus on community service.
After the 2024 election, Mr Choat returned to the private sector, completed further study, and has spent more time with his family.
“I’d been consulting in the rail and civil construction industry when I received a call from Peter Chant at Ray White Rural,” he said. “Peter asked whether I’d consider a move into the property sector, and it was great to receive an offer from the local business community in an industry where I can apply my experience with people and regulation.”
Mr Choat is enthusiastic about his new role and looks forward to working with the Ray White Rural team.
