Collies lead the pack in Moreton
IT’S official – the Border Collie has been crowned the City of Moreton Bay’s most popular dog, topping newly released registration data.
Of the 66,844 dogs currently registered across the Moreton, 4,764 are Border Collies, placing the hard-working herding breed at number one.
The Labrador Retriever (4,060), Maltese (4,032), and Staffordshire Bull Terrier (4,009) followed closely behind, each with more than 4,000 registrations.
The top 10 breed list also includes the Australian Kelpie, Australian Cattle Dog, German Shepherd, Jack Russell Terrier, Cavoodle, and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
When it comes to names, Bella leads the pack with 872 registrations, followed by Charlie, Luna, Molly, Ruby, Buddy, Daisy, Coco, Max, and Rosie.
With Moreton Bay welcoming an average of 240 new residents each week, the number of registered dogs continues to climb.
Mayor Peter Flannery, himself a proud Miniature Smooth Haired Dachshund owner, said registration is vital for both pets and owners.
“Dog registration helps Council quickly reunite you with your pet if they ever get lost and also supports our responsible pet ownership programs,” he said.
“Every lost pet deserves to come home and registration is what helps make this happen.”
Council is reminding residents that registration renewals for both cats and dogs are due by September 30. Registrations can be completed via Council’s website or by contacting Council directly.
