Damaging winds expected
Damaging westerly wind gusts are developing in southern Queensland today, with Moreton and Somerset among the affected regions.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) predicted that a strong trough and cold front would sweep across southern Queensland today, pushing offshore overnight.
“Strong west to southwesterly winds will develop over southeastern Queensland in the wake of the trough system,” the BoM said.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
- Move your car under cover or away from trees;
- Secure loose outdoor items;
- Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees;
- Beware of fallen trees and powerlines;
- For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
