Lovers of denim are being encouraged to show their support for local rescue animals this December, as Moreton Bay local Kay Schafer launched a heartfelt fundraising initiative with the ambitious goal of raising $1,000 by Christmas.
Kay, a passionate collaborator at Denim Alley Clothing housed within the vibrant Woodford Country Collective, will be donating the money raised from her unique, recycled denim items to two local animal rescues, marking the donation clothing with a golden star.
Proceeds from every gold-star denim item sold this December will provide crucial funds for both wildlife and domestic animal rescue groups, who struggle during the holiday season with rising pet surrenders and more injured wildlife due to storms.
“As someone who has worked for years in both animal rescue and community service, it truly means everything to me to give back through what I love most,” Kay said.
“The real heroes are the ones working quietly, fostering kittens or taking in baby bats that need extra care.
“I hope when people see the gold star on a piece of denim, they’ll know it’s more than a garment; it’s a chance to help, to make a real difference.”
The Woodford Country Collective, owned and run by Barb Nolan, is joining Kay in calling on residents and visitors to explore this one-of-a-kind store.
“Our goal is to offer shoppers a truly special experience, supporting our local creators and making a difference for the community,” Barb said.
With more than 25 local artisans providing a diverse selection of clothing, jewellery, homewares, and delicious local foods, the Collective stands as a just-right destination for discovering unique Christmas gifts while supporting regional talent.
Kay’s fundraising drive will take place for the entire month of December, giving everyone ample opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of local animals and promote environmentally friendly shopping.
