Backed by her employer, Mitre 10 Lowood, Donna is looking forward to a big crowd cheering her on when she shaves her head on Saturday, May 21.

“I told Troy Sharpe, the new manager here, and he got right behind it, and started calling on suppliers to provide donations for raffles,” Donna said.

While the event will go all day, including trade displays, raffles and giveaways, Ms Llewellyn said she will be doing her head shave at 10am.

“We wanted to get the day moving, so we thought it was better to do the Shave early, and let the trade day run through the day.”

Donna said she got involved while living in Brisbane, when a friend with breast cancer began losing her hair, and she wanted to have a wig made.

“I spoke with celebrity hairdresser Stefan, and asked him about having a wig made, because I had really long hair.

“He did the shave and made it into a wig, for the lady I knew, and that was my start.”

Sadly, a few years later, Donna’s mother and lost her hair during treatment, prompting Donna to get involved again.

“Since then, a lot of my family and friends have stepped up and joined in, and it has become a tradition.”

Donna said she supports the Leukaemia Foundation, as the disease has claimed family members.

“I will keep doing it until my hair stops growing back.

“I have seen some good news stories over the years, about five years ago, a customer’s 8-year-old son had leukaemia, he is in remission now.”

Anyone wanting to join in is welcome, Donna said, with donations able to be made on the day, or by scanning QR codes posted around the town.

“Anyone is also welcome to shave or colour their hair on the day, or just have a sausage.

“It doesn’t matter how big or small, it all helps.”
