Equestrian state comp gallops through Kilcoy
KILCOY was alive with horsemanship, competition, and community spirit as the town hosted the 2025 Pony Club Queensland (PCQ) State Championships from September 26 to 29 at the Kilcoy Showgrounds.

The four-day event brought together riders from across Queensland and northern New South Wales, with competitions spanning the Formal Gymkhana, Sporting Gymkhana, Stockman’s Challenge, and Campdraft.
For the first time at a state event, competitors were able to compete with two horses in both the Stockman’s Challenge and Campdraft, marking a milestone for Pony Club Queensland.
Zone 26 Pony Clubs, who stepped in to host with the help of the Kilcoy Pony Club, received widespread praise for their efforts in pulling the championships together.
Organisers thanked tireless volunteers, judges, and sponsors for ensuring the event’s success, with special recognition given to those working behind the scenes.
Each day featured early starts and long hours, with riders showcasing their skills across a range of events – from precision jumping and traditional gymkhana games to the technical phases of the Stockman’s Challenge and the fast-paced Campdraft finals.
Kilcoy’s showgrounds provided the perfect setting for competitors and their families, with camping facilities, food vendors, and a community barbecue adding to the festive atmosphere.
Local businesses also benefited from the influx of visitors, with the event drawing strong crowds and participants into the region.
The championships not only tested horsemanship and teamwork but also highlighted Kilcoy’s ability to host large-scale state sporting events, reinforcing its role as a hub for equestrian competition.
For many young riders, the weekend was a chance to make memories, achieve personal milestones, and represent their clubs with pride.
