First win in the QWAFL
Contributed by Barry Allen ON a day highlighted by inspirational Captain Jess Davy’s 100th game milestone, and the first Mother-Daughter Ricki & Millie Reeves to play a senior game of QAFLW together, the scene was set for a memorable day at the Den.

Playing the also winless Yeronga Devils, the game was contested fiercely early as both sides showed desperation in their endeavors to get on the scoreboard. Yeronga, with the aid of a significant breeze, opened their account first and held a one-goal margin at the first break.
The second quarter saw the Lions pepper the goals without much success until tall forward Grace Pearson-Smith scored a major. The small fleet-footed forwards of Charis Tarr, Ricki Reeves, and Emmy Brady were causing havoc, with the latter kicking three behinds for the term.
Pearson-Smith kicked the first goal of the third quarter, but the Lions' inaccuracy had left the door ajar. When the Devils kicked two goals in succession, the quarter ended with the Lions holding a slender 3-point lead.
Moreton Bay Lions Coach, Shane Dawes, asked for a renewed commitment and highlighted the fact that although the Lions are the youngest team in the competition, “All players are considered senior players and are expected to play as such.” Although eleven of his players are aged between 16-19 years old, Dawes got the response he was after, with sixteen-year-old Tiana Anderson winning some critical contests and fellow 16-year-old Mahalia Johnson nailing a pivotal goal.
Fittingly, when Captain Jess Davy slotted her first goal of the season, the Lions had created another piece of history by winning their first game in the State league.
Final Scores:
Moreton Bay 4.15.39 defeated Yeronga 3.1.19
