The Sunshine Coast Council’s FutureNow: In and of a Place program is calling on artists and creative technologists to apply for a transformative five-month creative development initiative.

This program aims to foster collaboration, experimentation, and innovation at the intersection of art and technology, offering participants hands-on workshops, industry mentorship, and a $2000 stipend.

Creative Director Megan Rowland emphasized the program’s inclusivity, encouraging applications from diverse disciplines like performing arts, coding, projection art, and visual design.

“We’re providing access to equipment, mentors, and peers to help participants develop existing ideas or experiment with new approaches,” Megan said.

The program will culminate in participants pitching their projects for potential development and presentation at festivals across Australia.

Community Portfolio Councillor David Law highlighted the initiative’s role in fostering the Sunshine Coast’s arts scene. “FutureNow positions the region as a competitive contender in the emerging arts and technology space, building capacity and creating new networks,” Cr Law said.

Applications close on January 27, with successful candidates announced on February 3, 2025. Open to Sunshine Coast-based artists or collectives, FutureNow invites exploration of emergent technologies to create innovative art experiences. For details, visit Sunshine Coast Council’s website.
