Proceedings will start at 5.30pm and are expected to conclude at about 8.30pm.

A resident of Woodford for a little over five years, event organiser Angela Dahn said she hoped the “Friday night drinks” event would create the chance to form new friendships and a closer knit community.

Taylor Wenham formed the Women of Woodford group on social media about two years ago as a way to bring together women of Woodford and the surrounding area.

Angela said the isolation experienced during the height of Covid was possibly a catalyst, and that the group now has nearly 900 members.

Discussion among the group has included local business advertising, events such as the Tuesday running club, Wednesday walking group, mothers groups, and informative talks.

Because of the diverse nature of the members, there are different groups that meet up at various times for different activities.

“For the first three-and-a-half years (that I lived in Woodford), I knew very few local people because I worked full-time in Brisbane and did not spend much time in Woodford,” Angela said.

“When the Women of Woodford FB page started up I reached out and met with a couple of ladies for coffee, started the running group and started a book club.

“Through these I have made a wonderful circle of friends that have helped me through a tough couple of years.

“These ladies have reminded me how important friendship is and how important it is to have people you can call on for help, support and company.”

Angela said the lucky door prizes at the June 24 event included candy boxes, massage vouchers, and honey.

“There will be a short ice breaker game to allow people to feel more comfortable talking to new people,” Angela said.

“I hope that even if ladies have no one to come with, they will still come along as we aim to make them feel comfortable and included.”
