Glass House MP praises health workers amid ‘broken system’
STATE Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell, has thrown his support behind doctors, nurses and paramedics amid the issue of ambulance ramping impacting the Moreton Bay region.
Mr Powell said that ramping was at 40 per cent at Caboolture Hospital, which services as far west as Kilcoy while the Kilcoy Hospital was not as fully equipped as Caboolture Hospital.
“At the outset though, let me thank our tireless doctors, nurses and paramedics at the front line,” Mr Powell said.
“They are doing amazing work within a broken system.”
Mr Powell stressed that the problem wasn’t with the ambulances or the paramedics, rather, “it’s within the emergency departments where there is a blockage preventing patients being seen in a timely fashion”.
“I’ve heard many stories from Woodford, Delaneys Creek and Wamuran locals who have had to wait for over an hour for an ambulance to reach them, and then once they eventually get to the hospital they are ramped and have to wait for even longer before seeing a doctor,” Mr Powell said.
“Again, our frontline staff are incredible.
“They are all doing the best they can but they are desperately under resourced and underfunded by the Queensland Labor Government.
“Instead of wasting $500,000 on renaming the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital in 2019, the government could have invested more into actual hospital services.”
