Highway upgrade D’Aguilar to Moodlu
WORK STARTS this month to upgrade the D’Aguilar Highway between Moodlu and Wamuran with wide centre lines and wider road shoulders.
Member for Pumicestone Ali King said the $12 million safety works were part of the Palaszczuk Government’s record $27.5 billion investment in road and transport projects across Queensland.
“We have stepped-up funding for important road safety upgrades to support growing communities as part of Queensland’s Covid-19 Economic Recovery Plan,” Ms King said.
“Sometime the simplest investments make a substantial difference in terms of safety.
“The wide centre line treatments provide extra space between vehicles travelling in opposite directions, and have been proven to significantly reduce the potential for head-on crashes.
“The works will also install dedicated right-turn lanes at Franks Lane and the western end of Bye Road, so traffic won’t be held up by motorists waiting to turn right into these side roads.”
Ms King said other works included resurfacing, clearing roadside hazards and vegetation to improve visibility, and installing new signs to reinforce overtaking rules.
Member for Morayfield Mark Ryan said this latest investment built on a series of projects we’ve delivered along the D’Aguilar Highway between the Bruce Highway to Yarraman in recent years.
“Work has been underway since the beginning of this year on a series of upgrades on the highway between Nanango and Kingaroy, as part of the $24.5 million package of works,” Mr Ryan said.
“Last year, $19 million was also announced as part of roads stimulus funding to boost Queensland’s economic recovery and, once designed, will fund more safety upgrades in the coming year or two.
“In 2018, a number of road safety treatments were carried out on the highway between Caboolture and Kilcoy, as part of the $16m D’Aguilar Highway safety improvement project, along with about $7 million worth on maintenance completed on a 3.4km section at Stony Creek in 2019.
“These projects don’t just improve safety for the people who drive the highway regularly, but they support jobs too.
“This latest upgrade between Moodlu and Wamuran is also expected to support 40 direct jobs, which means more people in work and spending money with local businesses while the project is underway.”
Works are expected to be completed by mid 2022, weather and construction conditions permitting.
