MORETON Bay was home to the largest gathering of Māori and Pacific Island cultures in South East Queensland this Labour Day, as the Pasifika Vibes Festival came to life at the Pine Rivers Showgrounds on May 5, bringing together more than 10,000 attendees.

Now in its 13th year, the annual event, organised by Pasifika Families Inc, has grown from its beginnings in Deception Bay to a major cultural celebration that packs out the showgrounds each year.

Mayor Peter Flannery said the festival played a vital role in celebrating cultural diversity and creating inclusive, connected communities in Moreton Bay.
“It’s a fantastic annual not-for-profit event that celebrates the cultures, foods, arts and traditions of our Pacific neighbours,” he said.
“Council is proud to have supported the Pasifika Vibes Festival from the very beginning and to have witnessed its incredible growth over the years.”

This year, Council contributed $19,000 to help bring the event to life and evolve in the future.

Councillor Jim Moloney (Div 8) said the Pasifika Vibes Festival is a highlight of the local community’s event calendar.
“Pasifika Vibes Festival is a great celebration of what we can achieve when we come together to celebrate cultural diversity, filling everyone in our city with pride,” he said.

President of Pasifika Families Inc, Setu Finau, said this year’s festival brought a joyful and immersive experience, “celebrating the rich and diverse cultures of the Pacific through traditional performances, cuisine, crafts and storytelling.”

Attendees got to enjoy cultural performances, delectable cuisine, and interactive workshops showcasing traditional craftsmanship. From weaving to carving, people had the chance to engage in hands-on experiences that celebrate the artistry and skill passed down through generations.
