Kilcoy’s history told through signs
THE Kilcoy History Trail continues to expand, with the most recent addition being a commemorative sign installed at the historic Mills home on Ridge Street.

This latest instalment marks another step forward in a project that began in 2015 and has steadily grown thanks to the interest of local homeowners and businesses.
After a brief pause, the Kilcoy District Historical Society (KDHS) resumed the project in July 2022, and is now set to continue the popular History Trail series through 2025.
The trail celebrates Kilcoy’s rich local heritage, offering historical insights into key buildings and sites throughout the region. In addition to the full-size signage displayed around town, smaller laminated replicas are available for purchase. These can be obtained by visiting the Kilcoy Hall of History or by contacting the Society via its website or email.
The Hall of History has also seen increased engagement, with 257 visitors recorded over the past three months. Research enquiries are at a record high, with volunteers working behind the scenes to assist families tracing their ancestry and local connections.
The feedback from visitors has been overwhelmingly positive, contributing to the Society’s growing database of historical records.
The Society is actively seeking volunteers, particularly typists and those able to help at the Hall, to support the growing number of enquiries and research tasks. Regular newsletters are distributed to a broad network of contacts, and monthly meetings are held at 6 pm on the second Thursday of each month. All are welcome to attend and participate.
Membership renewals are currently open for a nominal annual fee of $10, with new members always encouraged to join. Members receive monthly updates and are invited to contribute to the Society’s ongoing projects.
Homeowners with properties of historical interest who wish to join the Kilcoy History Trail are encouraged to reach out to the Society.
