Kilcoy voices get say over Borumba Hydro
QUEENSLAND Hydro has opened an Expression of Interest (EOI) process for a community-led consultation group for residents in the Kilcoy, Jimna and surrounding townships to have their say on the proposed Borumba Pumped Hydro Project.

Members of the new Kilcoy, Jimna and Surrounds Focus Group will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of the proposed Borumba Project over a two-year term. The focus group will complement the existing community reference groups for the Borumba Project by providing local insights on a broad range of important topics, including traff ic and transport, housing and accommodation, social impacts and project impacts. Queensland Hydro’s Executive General Manager, Delivery, Geoff Scott said the group will provide essential local insights to assist with planning and to support long-term benefi ts to communities around the proposed Borumba Project. “We see the Kilcoy and the surrounding townships and their communities as important stakeholders, and we want to keep the conversation going as the proposed Borumba Project develops,” he said. “It’s important that we get the community foundations and local insights right from the beginning. “Queensland Hydro has been engaging with businesses and community groups in Kilcoy and Jimna for some time. The establishment of this focus group is the natural next step for community members to have their voices heard. “We are seeking a broad range of community members to represent the diversity of the region, and are now accepting expressions of interest from the community.” The EOI is open from 20 October 2025 until 16 November 2025. Queensland Hydro’s current focus is delivering a refreshed business case and commercial assessment for the proposed Borumba Project that is aligned to the Queensland Government’s fi ve-year energy roadmap strategy and meets the State’s future energy needs. The refreshed business case is expected to be completed by mid-2026.
