Local Measles health alert
THE West Moreton Health Public Health Unit has confirmed measles in an adult from Boonah who recently came back from overseas.

The person was unknowingly infectious (able to spread measles) while travelling from Bali to Brisbane on August 19, and then in the community. Locations include: Flight JQ60 which arrived in Brisbane from Bali at 5.40am on August 19, Brisbane Airport between 5.40am and 7.10am on August 19, and Ampol petrol station at Peak Crossing on August 21.
Symptoms usually start 7–10 days after being near someone with measles, but it can take up to 18 days to show.
Dr Catherine Quagliotto, Public Health Physician at West Moreton Health, said measles is highly contagious and spreads easily, especially through coughing and sneezing.
“Early signs can include fever, cough, runny nose and red or watery eyes, followed a few days later by a distinctive red, blotchy rash,” she said. Call 113 43 25 84 if suspected to have measles.
