Locals set to pitch perfect in pink
WOODFORD’S weekly open mic night is set to strike all the right chords, as its Pink Playitt, a special fundraiser for breast cancer research, returns on October 23.

The Pink Playitt event will see performers and patrons dress in pink and ‘sing pink’ to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research, contributing to the Woodford Bowls Club’s campaign. The event promises to be one of the club’s most vibrant and meaningful events of the year, kicking off at 6pm.
Organisers are encouraging everyone to don their best pink outfits — from shirts to hats and even guitars — to show solidarity with those affected by breast cancer. A raffle and donation drive will also be held on the night, with all proceeds going directly to breast cancer research.
This comes after a successful night on October 2, which saw stellar performances from familiar faces, with Bill, Al, Mike, Pete, and Norm setting the tone with crowd favourites from Sinatra, Dean Martin, and The Bee Gees. Singers Jo Simeon, Fay, Jan, Leanne, and Don kept the energy high, while newcomers like Jo Maree wowed with polished vocals on hits such as Under the Boardwalk and Walkin’, Talkin’, Cryin’, Barely Beatin’ Broken Heart.
Organisers praised the club’s ‘walk-up artists’ for their enthusiasm and teamwork, noting how the mix of veteran performers and new talent continues to make Thursday nights a highlight of Woodford’s social calendar.
Residents are invited to join the Playitt crew every Thursday from 6pm at the Woodford Bowls Club, Webb Lane. Entry is free, with meals and drinks available — and plenty of good music guaranteed.
