An additional 3,900 young people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds in Logan will receive free swimming and water safety lessons through the Aqua English Project, thanks to a $120,000 grant from the Miles Government.

The funding, delivered over two years through the Celebrating Multicultural Queensland program, will support the ‘Empowered to Swim’ initiative, which provides lessons for young people aged 16 to 24. It also includes CPR training and offers 25 participants the opportunity to become bicultural aquatic assistants, gaining qualifications for future employment.

Lessons are being held at the Gould Adams Park Aquatic Centre, with additional support from Logan City Council’s Active and Healthy program. Since its launch in 2006, the Aqua English Project has helped over 34,000 people from diverse backgrounds learn vital water safety skills.

This initiative is part of a broader $1.7 million funding round supporting community-led projects that promote inclusion and social participation across Queensland.
