Marathon effort wins ‘Heroes Grant’
MOUNT Mee State School Principal Luke Forbes has been recognised as a “local hero” by Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell, receiving a $250 Local Heroes grant to support his extraordinary fundraising challenge for the school.

The 31-year-old principal is preparing to run a route with over 1,200 meters of elevation over 100 kilometers from Coolum Beach to Mount Mee on December 6, aiming to raise $50,000 to buy new laptops and iPads for all 53 students at his small hinterland school.
“We’re looking to enhance our technology, to improve students’ digital literacy,” Mr Forbes said.
“This run is a way to show the kids that you can do hard things if you put your mind to it.”
So far, the school community has rallied with over $13,000 raised, and excitement building for the fi nish line celebration on December 6.
The fi nal 13 kilometers will see Mr Forbes escorted by the local fi re brigade, before students join him for the last 700 meters into the school, where a community barbecue and festivities will await.
While some jokingly call him “crazy,” Mr Forbes’ determination has inspired teachers, parents, and students alike.
