Moreton cashes up
The City of Moreton Bay Council has secured $5.35 million in federal election commitments for local projects across the electorates of Dickson, Petrie, and Longman, following a targeted advocacy campaign before the federal poll.

This funding is in addition to over $41 million in Commonwealth grants awarded to the council for the 2024–25 financial year.
The council’s “City of Moreton Bay Matters” campaign focused on securing investment to support population growth, ease congestion, unlock housing supply, and improve sustainability and resilience.
Federal Labor commitments announced include:
$1.6 million for upgrades at Kumbartcho Sanctuary and Nursery,
$750,000 for enhancements to the Woody Point foreshore to support events,
$3 million for refurbishment of the Toovey Street complex.
There was also a pledge to support the Universal Outdoor Mobile Obligation (UOMO), aimed at improving mobile coverage in areas with limited NBN access.
Mayor Peter Flannery welcomed the funding, emphasizing its importance for the region’s rapidly growing population. He highlighted the council’s bipartisan and collaborative approach throughout the campaign, engaging with local members, candidates, and presenting clear regional priorities.
Flannery also acknowledged the contributions of incoming MPs Emma Comer and Ali France, Labor Senator Corinne Mulholland, and Longman’s Terry Young.
