Narangba prepares for standout season start

Following a successful 2024 season, with the Narangba Eagles Division 1 Men’s team making the grand final, the club is now preparing for a huge year ahead.

Club president, Darren Magin, said he was looking forward to the season, with the senior team’s preseason well underway.

“The senior Women and Men have been playing in the Kappa Queensland Cup which we have treated as a preseason competition,” he said.

“But the further you get into the competition, it becomes a bit of a pain in the backside as it starts interfering with the regular season.”

The Narangba Women side has had two consecutive wins so far, most recently beating Noosa 3-0 over the weekend.

So far, the Narangba Men have only played in round 3 of the competition, and smashed the Warwick Wolves 11-1.

Due to the Senior Men’s successful season last year, going undefeated all season and falling short in the grand final, Darren said one of the best things for the team is to lose a few games before the season kicks off.

“The Men have played heaps of other preseason games besides the Kappa Cup, and have lost a couple, which is not like us,” he said.

“Our team is really good but it’s bad because we don’t know how to lose.

“But that’s what they’re getting out of their preseason, the boys are getting it out of their system before the season starts.”

Darren added there is plenty of big signings for the Senior Men and Women teams, including two husband and wife couples playing across the two senior teams.

Registration numbers have climbed in the last few years, and this year are holding steady compared to last season, showing their strong player retention.

The club has already filled their U7 mixed, U13 Boys, U13, U14 and U15 Girls, and U16 Boys teams, with the other age division registrations closing soon or only have a wait list option.

The club is now calling out for two more footballers to join their U14 Division 3 Boys team.
