“This Expression of Interest (EOI) by the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA) is an important milestone for our Moreton Bay Indoor Sports Centre,” Mayor Flannery said.

“The sprint towards success has well and truly started and I say loud and clear, we’re ready to go!”

As part of the new agreement, announced by Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie at the Queensland Media Club on Thursday, Moreton Bay will host a 10,000-seat indoor sports centre to serve both the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the wider community for decades to come.

“This announcement provides real certainty for Council and accelerates the delivery of our new multi-use venue,” Cr Flannery said.

“City of Moreton Bay has already made a significant contribution, committing the land, associated precinct works and project support.”

Deputy Premier Bleijie said the $3.4 billion infrastructure package, backed by the Australian Government, marked a turning point.

“This landmark agreement is the beginning of a new partnership that will kick-start the delivery of world-class infrastructure in the 2032 Delivery Plan,” he said.

The venue will be one of South East Queensland’s largest, featuring 12 indoor courts for basketball, gymnastics, futsal, pickleball, netball, volleyball, badminton and wheelchair rugby.

The State Government’s 2032 Delivery Plan positions Moreton Bay to share in $250 million in grassroots upgrades and host key Games events—cementing its legacy.

Earthworks and remediation are already underway, with completion due mid-2026.
