Only a week left to grow your chance at $3,500
ONLY week left now for Somerset residents to enter the 2025 Somerset Garden Competition, with green thumbs urged to register their garden before 4pm Thursday, September 11.

Somerset Regional Council’s annual spring competition invites gardeners to put their plants on display for their share in a $3,500 prize pool.
Thanks to event major sponsor Searles, the leading market innovator in the home garden industry, all entrants will receive a signature Searles gift pack.
Somerset Councillor Sally Jess is one of the competition judges, and encouraged all residents, businesses and community groups in the region to participate.
“This competition is an excellent way for residents to show off their gardening talents and we’re excited to see what Somerset can grow,” Cr Jess said.
Major categories include Best Rural Garden, Best Urban Garden, Best Tiny Garden and Best First Time Entrant.
Cr Jess said the Best Tiny Garden category opened the competition to more participants.
“Tiny gardens could include a small area like a courtyard, patio or balcony with potted plants, raised garden beds or in-ground garden beds,” Cr Jess said.
“This means you don’t need a lawn to enter, which can be a barrier to some aspiring gardeners.
“Some people might not think their garden is competition ready, but the other judges and I will also be looking at how the gardens can develop over time – so don’t count yourself out.”
There are bonus category prizes for the best Habitat Garden, Floral Garden, Sustainable Garden, and Repurposed/Upcycled Garden.
All entrants are eligible for the bonus categories.
Competing gardens will be open for public viewing over the weekend of 27 and 28 September.
Entry forms are available at Council’s Customer Service Centres and Visitor Information Centres, and on Council’s website: somerset.qld.gov.au/somersetgardencompetition
Entries close 4pm Thursday, September 11.
