Paddle for health at DragonFest
PUMICESTONE DragonFest is the perfect opportunity for you to discover that dragon boating is more than just a water sport; it’s a powerful tool for enhancing mental health.

The rhythmic paddling, the splash of water, and the camaraderie among team members all contribute to a holistic experience that nurtures the mind and soul.
One of the most immediate benefits of joining a dragon boat team is the sheer fun it brings. The exhilaration of gliding across the water, synchronised with your teammates, creates a sense of pure joy!
Being on the beautiful Pumicestone Passage is an excellent distraction from daily stressors, giving you a mental break that refreshes your mind as the focus needed to keep paddling in time encourages mindfulness, helping you stay present and attentive. You leave your worries on the shore for the time you are on the water.
As John Butler, retired Army Veteran, who attended a Come & Try Session and never looked back, says, “The camaraderie and physical benefits of Dragon Boating can only be realised by participating. Nothing to lose, everything to gain.
“This is an all-inclusive sport, no superstars, just a group of people of all ages, some carrying injuries, but giving it a crack.”
Regular physical activity is known to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. The physical exertion of paddling strengthens the body, while the exercise-induced endorphins boost mental well-being.
If you are new to the area, or looking to make new friends, you’ll find an opportunity to build friendships within the team that combats feelings of loneliness and isolation.
As you step into the dragon boat, you’re entering a space where the only focus is on paddling and teamwork. This temporary escape from life’s challenges provides much-needed mental clarity and rejuvenation.
Discover the transformative power of dragon boating by signing up to be a part of DragonFest 2025, taking place on Bribie Island, Sunday, 14th September.
We have spots in social teams looking for paddlers! $35 per person entry fee includes training by nationally accredited coaches with all equipment provided.
