Powell frustrated by lack of answers on Caboolture Hospital
Andrew Powell, State MP for Glasshouse, has spoken out after Government MPs blocked Opposition attempts to ask questions about the Caboolture Hospital.
Attempts by Opposition MPs to ask what is happening at the hospital were frustrated by government calls for increased vaccination rates during Question Time this morning.
“We have long been calling for a proper and thorough investigation into the horrific allegations of botched surgery at Caboolture Hospital," Mr Powell said.
“We’re concerned the inquiry was too brief, the terms of reference too narrow, and too closely connected to Queensland Health.
“It’s now been two months since the allegations were first made by victims.
“We are right to ask questions of the State Government in Parliament."
Mr Powell said the delay in releasing the report only hid the problems, and prevented attempts to identify causes and find ways to fix them.
“After a two week delay, we want to see the report in full, we want to know what happened, and we want to know what the State Government is going to do to ensure it never happens again.
“It’s a cop out that the report still hasn’t been released and we’ll continue to pressure the State Government to provide answers.
“It’s what the victims deserve."
Mr Powell said there was a 'culture of secrecy' at the Caboolture Hospital, contributing to the ongoing nature of the problems.
“This culture of secrecy and lack of transparency must end.
“The State Government knows there’s problems at Caboolture Hospital, it’s why they immediately launched an inquiry.
“It’s now time to release the report and give Queenslanders the answers they deserve.”
