Providing certainty for Queensland timber
Consultation has closed on the State Government’s draft ‘Queensland Future Timber Plan’ (QFTP), which sets policies to secure a sustainable timber supply while creating jobs, supporting regional economies, driving advanced manufacturing, and maintaining a renewable resource.

More than 370 Queenslanders—including industry and conservation groups, Indigenous representatives, businesses, landowners, and individuals—contributed to the 25-year plan to help shape the future of the forestry and timber industry.
The QFTP forms part of the Primary Industries Prosper 2050 blueprint, which aims to increase Queensland’s primary production output to $30 billion by 2030. The draft strategy was developed through a robust process with input from multiple sources and will be supported by a detailed five-year action plan to guide implementation.
Primary Industries Minister Tony Perrett said Queensland homes will be built using locally sourced hardwood and softwood timber.
“We value the forestry sector; it is sustainable, renewable, and necessary to build one million homes over the next two decades,” he said.
“The timber industry has a major role to play in Queensland’s growth and prosperity and in helping us meet our ambitious goal to boost primary industries value to $30 billion by 2030.”
The 28-day consultation was part of a wider engagement process, culminating in the release of the final QFTP and first five-year action plan in late October 2025. All stakeholder feedback will be considered. The draft plan is available on the Department of Primary Industries website.
