Queensland Government Calls for Community Input on Volunteers Inquiry

The Queensland Government has launched a Parliamentary Inquiry into the state’s volunteer sector and is calling for input from volunteers and community organisations.

The Queensland Government has launched a Parliamentary Inquiry into the state’s volunteer sector and is calling for input from volunteers and community organisations.

The Supporting Our Volunteers Inquiry aims to examine the contributions of volunteers, identify challenges, and explore ways to remove barriers and encourage participation. The committee’s report is expected to be delivered by September 2025.

The inquiry comes amid declining volunteer participation, with numbers dropping by more than 10 per cent over the past three years.

Minister for Volunteers Ann Leahy said community engagement was crucial to shaping future support for the sector.

“These are passionate people who selflessly give their time, but we have seen a decline in volunteer numbers,” Ms Leahy said.

“Through engagement with the sector, we know there are obstacles preventing people from volunteering, and we want to address these to reverse the trend.

“Our government is listening, and the voices of frontline volunteers are crucial to shaping a better way forward. I encourage all those involved in volunteering to contribute to the inquiry.”

The inquiry delivers on a commitment from the government’s 100 Day Plan. Consultation is now open, and individuals and organisations are encouraged to participate.
