The collection will be happening in October/November, allowing for the disposal of unwanted or obsolete agvet chemicals.

Councillor Sean Choat said participating in the ChemClear collection was the responsible way to dispose of unused or expired agvet chemicals.

“ChemClear is a national program which offers a safe and environmentally responsible way for those in the agricultural industry to get rid of unwanted and currently registered agvet chemicals,” he said.

“Since ChemClear began operations in 2003, they have collected and disposed of more than 751 tonnes of chemicals for the purpose of minimising the risk to environmental and public health.

“Both ChemClear and its sister program drumMUSTER reduce the amount of agvet chemicals being stored in sheds, businesses and farms across the country, and I urge Somerset residents to register for the collection before the closing date of 31 August.”

Wherever possible, drumMUSTER products are recycled into everyday items such as street signs, irrigation piping, plants stakes and outdoor furniture.

Group 1 chemicals will be collected free of charge for eligible drumMUSTER products in their original containers that have readable labels, that have not been mixed with other products and are within two years of expiry or registration.

Group 2 chemicals may incur a fee for collection.  These include expired chemicals and those not part of the drumMUSTER program.

To register, go to or phone 1800 008 182.
