RSPCA offers discount for pet desexing
FIFTEEN veterinary practices in the Moreton Bay region are among 158 across Queensland offering 20 percent off cat and dog desexing, as part of RSPCA Queensland’s campaign titled Operation Wanted.
In this financial year, RSPCA Queensland reported that it had seen more than 4,000 pets surrendered, with financial hardship as the top reason for surrender.
The RSPCA recommended preventing unplanned pregnancies by desexing, rather than bringing unwanted pets into the world.
“The discounted service in multiple regions will not only help save lives, it will also help pet owners save costs,” RSPCA Queensland spokesperson Emma Lagoon said.
Ms Lagoon said it was estimated that about 20,000 animals were desexed in Queensland each year during the three-month campaign.
“Right now, we are full to the brim with cats and kittens,” she said.
“Unexpected litters and unwanted pets coming into our shelters is at an all-time high.
“Every animal deserves to be loved and have a home to call their own, desexing helps.”
Benefits of desexing one’s cat or dog:
- • No risk of unwanted litters;
- • Reduces their desire to roam;
- • Reduces the risk of some cancers;
- • Reduces other unwanted behaviours such as urine spraying (cats);
- • Cheaper Council registration fees;
- • Allows pets to be happier and more relaxed.
Until August 31, pet owners can register at operationwanted.com.au to receive the discount.
