Sharon, who is the club’s president-elect for 2025-26, spearheaded the installation of toilets in remote Kathmandu.

Her efforts earned the club an Enviro Award from ESRAG (Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group) under the Pollution pillar.

Humbled by the recognition, Sharon said, “Thank you. My own experiences in Nepal showed me how necessary sanitation is in this third world country, and providing one or more toilets is a way for us to support their program.”

ESRAG Oceania Chair Colin Scobie presented the award, praising the club’s environmental efforts to reduce pollution in these communities. He noted that this was one of 13 Enviro Awards given across the Rotary District of SE QLD since the April District Conference in Toowoomba.

Colin highlighted the wide range of environmental achievements across SE QLD, mentioning other clubs’ involvement in CAFW (Community Action for Fresh Water).

The presentation was assisted by ESRAG member Peter Row, and the club also received recognition for local ESRAG activities, including a summer series of UniSC graduate talks on Whales, Koalas, Kangaroos, and other topics.

The next major ESRAG event is a two-day expo in November 2025 at the UniSC Petrie Campus. A QR code provides more details about the Rotary clubs nominated for Enviro Awards.
