Snakes head into semi-finals

THE Caboolture Snakes have secured a spot in the 2025 FQPL 1 Women’s semi-finals, after wrapping up the regular season with a commanding 6-0 win over North Brisbane at Moreton Bay Sports Complex on Sunday, August 24.

The victory secured a third-place finish on 44 points, behind Brisbane Olympic (47) and Capalaba (45), capping off a stellar season with a record of 13 wins, 1 draw, and 2 losses.

After a tense draw against Capalaba midweek, the Snakes wasted no time asserting control.

Stephanie Latham opened the scoring in the fourth minute, capitalising on a spilled shot from Stef Mayhew.

Rebecca Sweeney doubled the lead with a precise header on 26 minutes, and the team carried a 2-0 lead into halftime.

The second half saw Latham strike three more times, completing her hat trick with goals in the 47th and 50th minutes and turning provider for goals five and six to Gypsy Ingram at 66 and 74 minutes.

Latham’s relentless attacking, combined with Cally Togiai’s support and Jacquelyn Kosegarten’s long throw-ins, left North Brisbane struggling to respond.

This season’s performance also continued a strong rivalry with North Brisbane. Two years ago, a 2-2 draw saw Caboolture finish third, while last year they won a semi-final 2-1 with late goals.

Earlier this season, Caboolture defeated North Brisbane 4-0 in the league and 2-1 in the Kappa Pro Series quarter-final.

The Snakes now turn their attention to the semi-finals against Capalaba, to be played Saturday, September 6 at 6:00 PM, hoping to carry their attacking momentum into the finals series.
