Sod turned on $86M road works
WORK crews and equipment have begun arriving at the site of the Youngs Crossing upgrade project, marked by a sod-turning ceremony on July 11.

Mayor Flannery called it an historic day, officially starting the countdown to the new four-lane bridge and road opening in 2027.
“This highly anticipated upgrade is one of the most extensive road infrastructure projects delivered by Council, including new pedestrian, cycling, and safety features,” he said. “I’m pleased our Council has been able to pull this project out of the ‘too hard basket’ where it’s been stuck for decades.”
For generations, heavy rains and water flows into the North Pine River and Sideling Creek have caused closures of Youngs Crossing Road, leading to delays, congestion, and economic impacts.
Federal Member for Dickson, Ali France, acknowledged the disruption caused by sudden road closures: “This significant road update will help people get home faster, so they can spend more time with their families and less time on the road.”
State Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Brent Mickelberg, said the Government is committed to delivering vital transport infrastructure across the State to ensure safety, reliability, and connectivity.
