Songbirds and brushstrokes
THE Caboolture Community Choir (CCC) welcomed a special guest to rehearsal on October 7 — local artist Chris Edwards, creator of the choir’s new artwork Caboolture Song Birds.

The visit followed the choir’s receipt of a special 30th anniversary gift from Member for Morayfield, Mark Ryan: a striking painting of songbirds by Mr Edwards, a well-known local artist whose surreal and imaginative works can be viewed at the Artisans’ Guild of Caboolture and District gallery in Burpengary East.
After a warm introduction, the group sang Blackbird, one of Mr Edwards’ favourite Beatles songs, followed by a selection of Christmas carols currently in rehearsal.
“It was a privilege for me to meet members of the Choir in such a delightful way,” Mr Edwards said.
Discussing his painting, proudly displayed near the stage, Mr Edwards shared the work took approximately six days of work over a period of two weeks to complete.
Mr Edwards also revealed his inspiration for the acrylic painting came from a resistance to painting a realistic impression of singers to avoid the risk of a singer being offended by their portrayal. He then decided to paint songbirds instead.
Each bird in the painting wears the choir’s signature purple shirt, complete with treble clefs and a musical score — a whimsical nod to the group’s spirit.
Musical Director June Willoughby described the choir as “a true community organisation with neither religious nor political affiliations, is non-competitive, and welcomes anyone over 18 who can carry a tune.”
The CCC performs regularly at civic and private events, aged care homes, and shopping centres.
The group has now begun rehearsals for its annual Christmas performances, including the beloved Caboolture Christmas Carols at Centenary Lakes.
