Speckle Park thrive

AT their property in Colinton, in the heart of the Somerset Region, Ivery Downs Speckle Park has built a reputation for demonstrating just how well Speckle Park cattle perform under local conditions.

More than seven years ago, the Jones family began running Speckle Park bulls exclusively across their 1,000-head commercial herd. The results were immediate – improved carcase quality, quicker finishing times and cattle that maintained condition even when the seasons turned tough.

Their confidence in the breed has only strengthened since. Today, Ivery Downs runs more than 200 purebred Speckle Park alongside the commercial herd and has invested heavily to measure and prove the benefits they see first-hand.

The stud is home to a Vytelle Feed Efficiency System imported from North America, making it one of only 14 BREEDPLAN-approved Net Feed Intake Test Stations in Australia, and one of just three in Queensland.

This technology allows Ivery Downs to generate independent, industry-recognised data to back the breed’s greatest strength – better output with less input.

Ivery Downs has gained national attention, featuring on ABC’s Landline late last year, and the stud now owns both the world record Speckle Park bull – Born Ready Shady, and the world record Speckle Park female – Battalion Heartbreaker R16.

With their commitment and belief in the Speckle Park breed, it is fitting Ivery Downs will host the third annual Hot Spot Multi-Vendor Speckle Park Auction on Saturday 20 September.

The sale will bring together 13 vendors from across Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia, making it Australia’s largest multi-vendor Speckle Park sale where 22 purebred bulls, 29 purebred females, commercial female lots and genetic packages will be on offer.

The catalogue – including full photos and videos – is available now at speckleparkauction.com.au
