Parts of Moreton Bay, including Caboolture and Narangba, experienced hail-producing storms in August, and long-range forecasts predict above-average rainfall across much of eastern Australia.

Mayor Peter Flannery advised residents to take early precautions to reduce the impact of potential flooding and damaging storms. He recommended clearing gutters and overhanging tree branches, reviewing insurance policies, and downloading a flood check property report to understand individual flood risks.

Key storm season tips include:
• Plan: Understand your risks and create a household emergency plan.
• Prepare: Assemble an emergency kit for up to three days without electricity or water and maintain your property.
• Survive: Follow your emergency plan and be ready to take action.
• Stay informed: Sign up to Moreton Alert, monitor the Bureau of Meteorology’s website and app for warnings, and check Council’s Disaster Dashboard for updates.
