Sustainable fishing and seafood on the menu this Christmas
Queensland's sustainable fishing industry ensures the best fishing experiences and responsibly sourced seafood for the festive season.
Queensland's sustainable fishing industry ensures the best fishing experiences and responsibly sourced seafood for the festive season.
With the state’s commercial and aquaculture sectors working together, all seafood is sustainably managed, offering consumers confidence in what’s on their plates.
Primary Industries Minister Tony Perrett is encouraging Queenslanders to shop local this Christmas and make Queensland seafood the star of their holiday tables.
“Whether it’s wild-caught or from our aquaculture sector, Queensland seafood is some of the most sustainable and high-quality in the world,” Mr Perrett said.
The state’s $354.1 million commercial fishing sector plays a crucial role in providing variety and sustainability for consumers, with an abundance of prawns available this season.
By purchasing local seafood, you support jobs across the state and enjoy some of the freshest produce available.
Mr Perrett also highlighted an ideal Christmas gift for fishing enthusiasts— a Stocked Impoundment Permit (SIP).
The SIP grants access to 63 stocked impoundments across the state, where fishing lovers can help reduce pressure on wild species, support local businesses, and even enter the Fish ‘n SIP$ tagged fishing competition for a chance to win cash prizes.
