Tackling drug issues
DIVISION 3 Councillor, Adam Hain, joined Minister for Police, Dan Purdie, and Member for Glass House and Minister for Tourism and Innovation, Andrew Powell, in a meeting on May 1 to discuss the problems of drug abuse, rehabilitation, and police response times in the region.

Cr Hain said community safety is a key priority for Council, having appreciated the opportunity to speak to Minister Purdie and Minister Powell.
“I spoke about many of the concerns community had raised with me, but with Minister Purdie in attendance, it was an opportunity to discuss what the community has told me in particular about drug use, rehabilitation for users and increasing local police response times,” he said.
“As a Councillor, our role is to listen, and work together with all stakeholders, to provide solutions to community concerns. I look forward to welcoming Minister Purdie visiting Caboolture in the near future and continuing our conversations with both Ministers to tackle some of the challenges and opportunities we discussed.”
Mayor Peter Flannery said since local government is the closest level of government to the community, regular meetings were important to ensure local insights and challenges raised by residents were passed on.
“City of Moreton Bay is known for its collaborative approach that sees all levels of Government to work together for the good of the whole community,” he said.
Minister Powell also thanked Minister Purdie for giving Cr Hain the opportunity to share a number of local frustrations with him directly.
“Front and centre is the growing community concern around drug use and dealing,” he said.
“We discussed changes recently tabled in Parliament that, while still ensuring police are responsive to domestic and family violence, will improve the processing of such matters – freeing up our local officers to attend more call outs and undertake proactive policing with respect to issues like drugs.”
