Caboolture State High School student Jules McAllister represented the Sunshine Coast in the schoolboys softball championships for the second year in a row.

The year 10 student was selected in the Sunshine Coast team for the championships at Downey Park, Windsor, while opposing teams were Metropolitan East, West and North as well as Darling Downs, Capricornia and Wide Bay.

Players had the chance to push for Queensland selection, with Nicholas Prinkey the only Sunshine Coast player to make the squad.

It was the second successive year that Jules took part in the schoolboys championships, having represented Sunshine Coast at the Redlands last year. On that occasion, Sunshine Coast finished as the runner-up after reaching the grand final.

Jules was one of three Caboolture State High School players in the team each year, with Billy Fainges and Dylan Timms the others this year after Tyghe Cameron and Curtis McAllister were there last year.

Jules, who fields at first and third base and also plays a role with the bat, said he was familiar with his Sunshine Coast teammates, having played with and against them in club softball and at different representative carnivals over the years.

Having played softball for about seven years, including two years for Caboolture club Warriors, Jules said he enjoyed the sport because it was “a fast and fun game to play” while he aimed to “keep playing and see where it takes me”.

Although state selection has eluded him in recent years, Jules was chosen in the Queensland Secondary Schools (QSS) 10-12 years Softball Boys Merit Team for 2020 following that year’s QSS Championships.

Jules was presented with a maroon cap for this achievement.
