Toogoolawah set for more childcare
YOUNG families will soon have a new childcare option in Toogoolawah, after Somerset Council approved a development application (DA) for a childcare centre at 75 Gardner Street last month.

The new centre will be built on land formerly used by the Toogoolawah Apostolic Church, adjacent to Toogoolawah State School.
The 618sqm facility is set to cater for up to 72 children with five childcare rooms, supporting rooms, two outdoor play areas and 17 parking spaces including accessible parking.
The outdoor play areas will be enclosed with acoustic barriers located on the north, east and western boundaries, with all proposed barriers being two-metre-high fencing.
The centre is set to operate Monday to Friday, 6:30am to 6:30pm.
To respect the history of Toogoolawah, developer Gemstone Industrial agreed to relocate the existing church building rather than demolish it.
Somerset Mayor Jason Wendt said the proposed centre would be welcomed by the Toogoolawah community.
“Having additional childcare options means our young families have more flexibility so they can live and work in Somerset,” Cr Wendt said.
“We look forward to seeing the childcare centre up and running.”
According to the DA, the site is perfectly located for such a facility, being surrounded by a mix of Community Facilities and General Residential zoned land, as well as being positioned within proximity to a range of services and facilities such as primary schools, healthcare and community services, public transport, retail facilities and recreational opportunities.
