Trot, cycle and stay fit with new groups
New Woodford residents are being urged to ’trot’ out with their doggies and enjoy the benefits of meeting other locals while keeping fit and healthy.
A new and casual pet-walking group, Doggo Trot, has just started with the aim of giving both dogs and humans alike the opportunity to socialise in an otherwise isolated area.
The group meets at the Woodford pool once a month on a Sunday morning to go for a stroll through the local forestry with their four-legged best friends.
Organiser Ang Dähn said that the activity provides an opportunity for newcomers in the area to meet some friendly faces.
“A lot of the people that come to the dog walk are new to the area and it’s a way for them to get to know other people,” she said.
It is among a host of activities aimed at both new and old Woodford residents hoping to meet likeminded community members.
In addition to Doggo Trot, the Active Woodford Running Group meet on a Tuesday and Thursday morning for a run, followed by a coffee and chat.
The group empowers locals of all running experiences to pursue their fitness goals in a supportive environment.
Local bike riding group ‘thewoodygag’ takes to the streets of Woodford every Thursday evening at 6pm.
Organiser Jim Robertson said the activity was all about having fun and being inclusive for locals.
“It’s the sort of cycling where you don’t have to get dressed in Lycra, you can wear what you like, ride what you like, it doesn’t matter, just local people getting together having fun,” he said.
Whether you’re looking to make new friends, keep fit or simply enjoy some fresh air with your dog, these activities offer something for everyone in the Woodford community.
