$20k damage to new park
Morayfield Skate Park has been vandalised just four months after the completion of a nearly $2 million upgrade, with Council repair costs estimated to be between $15,000 and $20,000.

The recent $1.9 million upgrades to the track included a new vert ramp featuring murals of Trent Riley, a greatly missed local who was influential in the skateboarding community.
Moreton Bay Mayor, Peter Flannery, called the actions of vandalism and graffiti “senseless”, especially since Council invested in a street art mural wall where people could paint and express their creativity without damaging the park.
“It’s sad to see the ramp dedicated to Trent has been badly damaged in such a senseless act,” he said. “Vandalism and graffiti are totally unacceptable and result in substantial clean-up and repair costs, which are ultimately borne by our ratepayers.”
Cr Flannery added the importance of timely repairs to the park, as World Skate Oceania is set to host a competition at the Morayfield Skate Park in early August.
“We are determined this vandalism incident won’t cause the community to miss out on this event, which leads into the World Championships to be held in Japan in November,” he said.
Moreton Bay Council has recorded over 4,300 graffiti repair orders in the 2024/25 financial year, with Cr Flannery naming it “a major problem” at parks and other community facilities.
In an effort to deter vandalism to public facilities, Moreton Bay Council has invested heavily in its CCTV network, with nearly 200 cameras deployed in the past 12 months alone, bringing the total amount to over 1,850.
The incident at Morayfield Skate Park was captured on CCTV, with footage having been passed onto local police.
